Breathless for toy piano and violin (2004)

This piece was originally written to be played for a group of children in Chicago for an International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) education project. A revised and new version was premiered by ICE's violinist David Bowlin and Pierre-Laurent Aimard on toy piano in my chamber music portrait concert at the Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival.

The violin only plays with pizzicato which should match the sound of a tingly toy piano. The music is quite rhythmic, using some irregular patterns, and at one point the whole music suddenly feels as if it doubles in tempo.
